What changes when

YOU MARRY
  • BAH shifts to the with-dependents rate.
  • Add your spouse to DEERS to start Tricare.
  • Update your SGLI (Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance) beneficiary.
  • Revisit your TSP and bank account beneficiaries too.
A NEW DEPENDENT
  • Add the child to DEERS for Tricare coverage.
  • Update SGLI and account beneficiaries again.
  • Start an education-savings habit early, while time does the work.
DEPLOYING APART
  • Confirm Family Separation Allowance (FSA) if you qualify.
  • Use the SDP (Savings Deposit Program) for its guaranteed return if eligible.
  • Set an allotment or a shared budget so bills never miss.
  • Put a power of attorney in place before you leave.
